Artificial Intelligence for future societies: AI for Sustainable Design

Research Group: (Web Science Institute)

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Exeter in Mechanical Engineering. I then went on to study at Cranfield University, obtaining an MSc in Astronautics and Space Engineering. After working within the space industry in various roles I decided to pursue some other interests and completed an MA in Landscape Architecture in 2016. The course provided real insight into the challenges faced by designers and governments and highlighted areas lacking in innovation. Motivated to make the world a more environmentally conscious and healthier place, I felt that combining my analytical skillset with my knowledge of landscape was a natural progression and ultimately led me to discovering and starting this PhD.

Project details:

The subject area of my PhD aims to examine how Artificial Intelligence and technological innovation can improve the quality of life for future societies. I am currently researching how it may be possible to quantify the perception of safety within an active travel environment through machine learning. Although early in the PhD process, my main motivation is to improve infrastructure to increase uptake of active travel.
